Summer Science Support

Science

Peak will offer several options for science remediation and preparation this summer.  Students who enter AP/IB level science classes underprepared often have a very frustrating experience struggling through the school year and preparing for the end of course AP/IB exams.

Introduction to Chemistry

We believe the reason we work with so many struggling chemistry students during the school year stems from the fact that most students enter high school chemistry with little to no knowledge of basic chemistry concepts.  In response to this problem, we have developed an introductory class that provides students with the background knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success in their upcoming chemistry course.

This class is designed to prepare high school students for their Intro to Chemistry class.  Now in it’s 12th year, we continue to get rave reviews from students and parents about how helpful the class proves to be.  Students leave the class having learned the foundation of almost half of the information covered in a typical high school Chemistry class; this gives them a huge head start as well as confidence going into a traditionally very tough class.

Introduction to Physics

This class is designed to prepare high school students for all physics courses. Physics requires a core set of skills derived from both math and science. During the course of this class students develop and hone these skills and are exposed to the most common and tricky concepts that will be encountered in their physics coursework. Students who complete this class leave having the foundation necessary to thrive during the school year.

Introduction to Biology

Designed by our Director of Education, a former biological researcher at CU Boulder, this course prepares students for all levels of biology courses. Special attention is given to those core concepts that so often cause students to struggle, including cellular respiration, photosynthesis, protein production, and more. Students exit this class with a firmer understanding, strong set of notes for future reference, and a foundation that gives them a leg up throughout the school year.

Summer Skills Assessment

Peak’s expert science instructors have created a series of diagnostic assessments that measure students’ understanding of all key concepts in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics which allow us to measure a student’s readiness to enter an AP or IB level science class.  Once areas of weakness are uncovered, students working with a science teacher and/or in a Peak course can more easily and effectively bolster those weak areas and enter the upcoming year ready for success!  Click here to learn more about Peak’s Summer Skills Assessments.
